FSH
FSH regulates follicular development and ovulation. Clinically it is used for the treatment of anovulation and in assisted reproduction technologies (ART) such as in vitro fertilisation and intracytoplasmic sperm injection. Worldwide, the demand for FSH is increasing. Traditionally the source for FSH was the urine of post-menopausal women. The company Akzo Nobel/Organon was among the first companies to develop recombinant FSH in CHO cells. The product is free of LH, shows batch to batch consistency and contains no human contaminants. It has proven to be more efficacious than urinary FSH by number of oocytes retrieved and pregnancy rates achieved.
