About The Tech Transfer Summit
The inaugural Tech Transfer Summit was held in 2007 as part of the European Federation of Biotechnology’s 13th European Congress of Biotechnology. It was founded in partnership between The European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB) and Tech Investor Ltd to meet an increasing need for a better understanding between all the stakeholders in the Biotechnology community on the critical need for efficient transfer of early innovative research to commercializable product technology. The Summit is Europe’s premier think-tank for Technology Transfer professionals, researchers, business angels, Government funding bodies, PE VC professionals, financiers and financial service providers and the legal profession. The Summit provides a networking platform for dissemination and deliberation of problems and solutions alike, available methods and processes and ultimately provides access to business resources that underpin the commercialization of innovative technology. The Summit is of importance to entrepreneurial researchers & innovators, University Tech Transfer Offices, research institutes, corporations, and investors alike, allowing them to successfully network, collaborate and form partnerships that can help drive forward innovative technologies to the commercial markets.
Vision
The creation of a network of technology transfer professionals, leading researchers and corporate biotechnology stakeholders to help commercialize the ever increasing amount of innovative biotechnology in our society.
Mission
The constructive deliberation and debate that the Summit provides, coupled with exclusive networking opportunities with key biotechnology stakeholders, will enable the process of technology transfer to become better understood and applied and subsequently deliver that which we all strive to achieve; the commercialization of biotechnological innovation.
Goals
- Build Europe’s most dynamic technology transfer specialist network
- Be recognized as the premier Tech Transfer Summit for entrepreneurs, angel investors, government funding bodies, investors, corporations, R&D experts and policy makers
- Deliver a Summit that provides the required environment for those interested in Technology Transfer, either directly or indirectly, to meet and network for the benefit of real business development and ultimately future commercial development.
EFB - The Voice of Science The European Federation of Biotechnology is the Voice of Science for the biotechnology community in Europe. Europe’s largest and most inclusive biotechnology organization with over 235 Institutional and 6,000 personal members from around the world, the EFB was founded by leading European scientific and learned societies in 1978 to serve as the biotechnology community.
The aims of the EFB are to foster a positive environment for biotechnology and to enable biotechnology to serve its rightful role in society, by promoting research and innovation at the cutting edge of biotechnology and the beneficial application and utilization of science. EFB provides a forum for interdisciplinary and international cooperation between stakeholders from public research and industry, and works to improve scientific education and to facilitate an informed dialogue between scientists and the public.

The European Federation of Biotechnology’s Tech Transfer Summit™, organized in partnership with Tech Investor is the original pan-European technology transfer meeting. A pioneering initiative developed not just to foster talk, but to highlight best practices and lessons from the foremost practitioners of tech transfer worldwide and lead the way in providing a forum and platform for learning, networking, partnering and cooperation.
With large corporations such as Big Pharma, Large Biotech and industrial-based companies in the chemical and agricultural industries looking to create and secure innovative deals with universities, research institutes and early-stage and emerging biotech companies, the community as a whole requires Technology Transfer initiatives like never before. In such a market, understanding, knowledge and important connections to deliver the transfer of valuable and sought-after technology is a pre-requisite. For scientists, universities and research institutes, there is also a responsibility to ensure that when publicly funded science generates world class results, this science is applied and society is able to benefit from it. Smart, effective approaches to tech transfer are crucial to the development of a Knowledge Based Bio Economy.
The Tech Transfer Summit™, created by the European Federation of Biotechnology and Tech Investor Ltd., is the leading event of its kind, pioneering the effort to ensure that world class innovation is applied and brought to the market or society. It’s about utilising science & innovation rather than leaving it to sit on the shelf. Bringing together academia, industry and CEO entrepreneurs with leading international experts and practitioners in technology transfer, IP and licensing, the Tech Transfer Summit™ provides an un-matched environment for fostering increased and improved technology transfer, making sure that the true potential of world-class research is achieved.
The Tech Transfer Summit™ will be held in Paris, France on 6 - 7 October 2008 at EuroBiO 2008 at the Porte Maillot Palais des Congrès.
