Francesco Lescai graduated in Medical Biotechnology and has a PhD in Experimental Pathology and the European Doctorate in Biotechnology.
He worked for ten years at the Centre for Biocomplexity of the University of Bologna, where he was involved in the largest European project on Genetics of Healthy Ageing.
He moved then to the University College London, where he has been responsible for the development of the NGS analysis pipelines at UCL Genomics; in London, he led the Bioinfomatics team at the Centre for Translational Genomics GOSgene and the NGS Consortium of the university HPC cluster Legion. Currently, he is Associate Professor at Aarhus University, Department of Biomedicine, where he is responsible for the NGS analyses within the initiative iPSYCH, aimed at investigating the causes of 5 major psychiatric disorders.
Francesco has chaired for several years the Association of Italian Biotechnologists (ANBI), then the Young European Biotech Network (YEBN). Within EFB, he chairs the Task Force on Education, Mobility and Professional Qualifications; he also acted as Expert for the European Commission in numerous initiatives, including the Directive for Bioeconomy 2020 and Horizon2020.
