Dr. Piet Lens is widely known for his groundbreaking work in the field of sulfur and metal biotechnology. He has authored and co-authored over 125 scientific publications and 8 books. Besides innovative research, he has also a strong commitment to capacity-building as organizer of multiple study-days, conferences and Euro Summer Schools.

Dr. Lens trained in Environmental Sanitation, and then obtained his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at the University Gent (Belgium). He is presently Associate Professor at the University of Wageningen (The Netherlands). Dr. Lens is Editor-in-Chief of the Springer journal “Re/Views in Environmental Science and Bio/Technology” and is the Editor of the IWA Publishing series “Integrated Environmental Technology”. Lens’s honors include the IWA Publishing Award (2002) and a prestigious Marie Curies Excellence Grant (2004).
