Eppendorf: Bioprocessing Technologies in Stem Cell Research

The 1st Stem Cell Community Day will take place on April 4, 2017 in Hamburg, Germany. It will bring together experts from industry and academia, to discuss recent achievements, challenges, and chances in stem cell bioprocessing for research and commercial manufacturing. The event is chaired by Dr. Robert Zweigerdt (Hannover Medical School) and includes key note lectures from Steve Oh, PhD, from the Bioprocessing Technology Institute in Singapore, Dr. Stefan Braam, CEO of Pluriomics (Netherlands), and Todd McDevitt, PhD, principal investigator at the Gladstone Institutes (USA).

Society of Chemical Industry: CRISPR gene editing: GM or not?

CRISPR is the new genome editing tool that could transform the fields of biology, medicine, agriscience, and biotechnology, among others but remains contentious. Progress with CRISPR gene editing technology and its possible impact on the breeding of new crop varieties was recently discussed by the SCI Agrisciences Group committee. Dr Derek Hollomon has reviewed how the technology has been evolving and the issues surrounding its commercial use.

Royal Society of Biology to launch online training portal with course on animals used for scientific purposes − coming soon.

The European Commission established an Expert Working Group (EWG) to develop a common education and training framework for the EU to fulfil the requirements under Articles 23, and 24 of Directive 2010/63/EU on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes. The objectives of the EWG were to develop a common framework to facilitate meeting the requirements for competence of all those involved in use and care of animals for scientific purposes and free movement of personnel (...)
